You’ve made the decision to move to a senior living community. You finally feel ready, and as you start calling around and touring places, you realize that the community you are interested in has a waitlist. It’s, unfortunately, a tough part of the process, but with adequate planning, this scenario doesn’t have to be your reality. In this blog, we break down some of the benefits of joining a senior living waitlist and how you go about the process at Holland Home.
Why join a waitlist?
At Holland Home, the waitlist currently ranges from 1-5 years, depending on the campus and demand for the particular home or apartment. (Some residences have no waitlist and are ready for move-in!) So, while you may not feel quite ready for senior living now, joining a waitlist can help to ensure you get the residence you want in the community you desire. Keep in mind that as the aging population grows, demand for senior living communities and services will only grow!
One thing we always stress to prospective residents is the importance of making the move sooner rather than later. Making preparations while you are physically, mentally, and emotionally able to can help in the long run should an accident or illness lead to an unexpected decline in health. If you’re already on the waitlist, you won’t have to start the process of moving into a senior living community from the beginning—and end up waiting for the care you or your spouse need or end up in a community that wasn’t your first choice.
Pro Tip: You can choose to be “inactive” on the waitlist, which means you can still hold your place, and we’ll check in with you once a year.
How do you join our waitlist?
Joining our waitlist is a pretty straightforward process. First, you will complete an application and let us know which apartments or homes you are interested in (you can be as specific as you like, and the more options you provide, the better). Then, you pay the $500 non-refundable application fee. Congratulations! You’re officially on the Holland Home waitlist and are one step closer to enjoying a worry-free lifestyle in a vibrant community.
What happens after you’re on the waitlist?
We’ll call a couple of times a year to update you on sales activity, your place on the waitlist, and other campus ongoings. While you wait, you can join a number of in-person events and webinars to help prepare you for the moving process and meet other prospective residents.
When the time comes and a residence is offered, you will have a chance to tour the place and are given some time to decide. If you say “yes,” you’ll complete a financial disclosure form to get approved and submit the $5,000 deposit. If you say “no,” we move on to the next person on the list, and you keep your spot on the waitlist.
