Women’s History Month at Holland Home:

Tracy J., Director of Nursing

As we continue to celebrate Women’s History Month, we recognize the many contributions the amazing women at Holland Home make to our organization and community. Our Director of Nursing, Tracy J., is one of the incredible women who make this place so special. Not only does she make a difference in the lives of residents each day, but she is also known for her tremendous leadership.
Tracy’s journey to nursing began 25 years ago when she worked as an RCA in Assisted Living here at Holland Home. To further her career, she went back to school for her LPN. After that, she worked at other facilities, eventually obtaining her RN and a Nurse Manager position.
Upon moving back to Grand Rapids in 2012, Tracy spent some time at a local hospital. Then, she realized that she really wanted to work in a facility that aligned with her personal beliefs. Holland Home’s mission and vision did just that. So she made her way back to our organization as a Nurse Manager at Raybrook.
For Tracy, If there is one thing that never gets old about the job is the chance to make a real difference in people’s lives. Whether that’s working with the dining staff to meet a resident’s food preferences or setting up a Valentine's Day lunch for a man and his wife, her position at Holland Home affords her a lot of one-on-one time with patients and a chance to create special moments and bonds.

“I tell them, ‘you can do it! You drive your future.”

Her commitment to building relationships extends to her team as well. From organizing bake sales to buy gifts for staff to putting together Thanksgiving baskets for them, Tracy goes the extra mile to let each member of her team know they are appreciated. She is also always making an effort to empower them and build up other women and women of color. In Tracy’s own words, “I tell them, ‘you can do it! You drive your future.”
Well, Tracy, with you as a part of Holland Home, we can all be assured that the future is looking bright. Thanks for being you!
