CONGRATULATIONS DR. JOHN MULDER
Holland Home, Faith Hospice, and Trillium Institute are pleased to announce that John Mulder, MD, FAAHPM, HMDC has been recognized by the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (AAHPM) with the 2019 Project on Death In America (PDIA) Palliative Medicine Community Leadership Award. Dr. Mulder is Medical Director of the Trillium Institute, an affiliate of Holland Home.
The award recognizes Dr. Mulder for his efforts to advance the field of palliative care in our community through distinctive mentorship and leadership, as well as his commitment to mentoring future leaders and serving as a role model for other health professionals engaged in improving the care of the dying.
Dr. Mulder is a leader in the field of palliative care and has considered improving the quality of life for his patients a matter of service for more than 30 years. With expertise in the fields of hospice, end of life care and palliative medicine, he is a nationally recognized authority on end-of-life issues and pain management.
Dr. Mulder received his undergraduate degree from Western Michigan University and his masters and medical degrees from Wayne State University. He has received numerous awards and serves as an Assistant Professor at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. He is also the director of the Mercy Health Grand Rapids Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship Program. He served as Vice President of Medical Services and Medical Director at Faith Hospice for nine years.
“John has a genuine passion for guiding patients and their loved ones through some of the most uncertain and emotional moments of their lives with grace and dignity. He walks alongside them on their journey, bringing comfort and understanding to every life he touches. I am blessed to have had the opportunity to learn from John and feel that there is no one more deserving of this award,” said Amy Van Andel, a veteran in the field of hospice palliative care and a colleague of Dr. Mulder’s.
Steve Van Andel, Chairman of Amway, further commented, “The Grand Rapids community owes a great deal to John, not only because of his work and leadership in this area, but because of the quality of care we will all receive as a result of his mentorship of the next generation of health care providers.”
Dr. Mulder will receive his award during the Annual Assembly of Hospice and Palliative Care in Orlando, Florida on March 14, 2019.
