Although Tom & Marjean came to Holland Home through different circumstances, both emphasized the topic of community. “I moved here primarily to find other people. And I would say that was probably the best decision that I made. I met so many people.” Marjean added that after her husband passed away 4 years ago, she never felt alone. “I could walk outside the door of my apartment and see people and have coffee with people. I never felt totally alone and I was so glad I was here."  

They met under rather comical circumstances during an engagement celebration Tom hosted at the Ridge for his friend’s from Africa. “While everyone watched fairly amazed at all of the music and food, someone said my name down the table and I couldn’t quite hear and I looked up and we hit heads and sure enough it was Marjean.” “That’s how we truly met!” Marjean laughed. “And we’ve been friends ever since.”
