Living for Jesus

“This was the theme song for the Calvinist Cadet Program…it has also been my personal life theme.”

Living for Jesus
Author: Thomas O. Chisholm, 1917

Living for Jesus a life that is true,
striving to please him in all that I do,
yielding allegiance glad hearted and free
this is the pathway of blessing for me.

Chorus:
O Jesus, Lord and Savior,
I give myself to you,
for you in your atonement
did give yourself for me.
I own no other master
my heart shall be your throne:
my life I give, henceforth to live,
O Christ, for you alone.

Living for Jesus, who died in my place,
bearing on Calvary my sin and disgrace:
such love constrains me to answer his call,
follow his leading, and give him my all.

Living for Jesus wherever I am,
doing each duty in his holy name,
seeking the lost ones he died to redeem,
bringing the weary to find rest in him.

This was the theme song for the Calvinist Cadet Program.  I love the words, the significance of the theme for my life as my life was dedicated to Him, and the musical score – especially the tenor notes.

Oh Jesus, Lord and Savior,
I give myself to Thee,
For Thou, in Thy atonement,
Didst give Thyself for me;
I own no other Master,
My heart shall be Thy throne,
My life I give, henceforth to live,
O Christ, for Thee alone.

It has also been my personal life theme – my life has been dedicated to living for Jesus.  It was the driving force from my personal life as a young boy and for the next steps of marriage to my lovely and Christ centered life partner, parenthood and eventually grandparent and great-grandparent roles.
