Holland Home staff and family featured in ArtPrize
Holland Home has a presence in this year’s ArtPrize, thanks to staff and family members!
Beth Heinen Bell, life enrichment assistant at Raybrook, is exhibiting her photography at Grand Rapids Pizza and Delivery, 340 State SE. “The idea behind my work is to capture the vibrancy and spirit of the East Hills neighborhood in which I live — an area that just 20 years ago was one of the worst in the city, but now thrives with new life,” Beth said.
You can vote for Beth’s photographs by using code 40071, or online at Beth’s artist profile. To see more of Beth’s photographs, visit her website at StudioBHB.com.
Michelle Calkins is also exhibiting her work in ArtPrize. Michelle is the daughter of Mary VanderVelde, executive assistant at our corporate office. Michelle’s interactive concept piece is a work in progress. It is a sculpture consisting of a two-sided sheet of metal mounted within a steel framed easel. Attached to it are various colored magnets printed to look like textured paint. The viewer will be invited to move the magnets around to create a new piece of art. The piece can be viewed (and experimented with!) at the GVSU Outdoor Art and Sculpture Exhibition Center.
You can vote for Michelle’s piece by using code 35081, or online at Michelle’s artist profile. To see more of Michelle’s work, visit her Etsy and Artist Rising pages.
Olivia VandeBrake, daughter of director of Raybrook Homes and Estates Susan VandeBrake, is featured in a mural by Jeff Zimmerman being installed on the seven story wall of Kendall College of Art and Design. When complete, the mural will span the size of two side-by-side basketball courts. Olivia, in the green shirt, met the artist at a friend’s house and was invited to pose for the painting.
You can vote for Jeff’s piece by using code 39741, or online at Jeff’s artist profile.
Debra Aalsburg Smale, sister of Care Resources social worker Susan Aalsburg, is also an ArtPrize participant. Debra works in mixed media, creating urban and industrial landscapes that capture the dramatic change in manufacturing. Debra has worked in manufacturing for 25 years and has experienced the upheaval and transformation in industry during that time. Her exhibit is “Resilience: A Record of Economic Disruption and Reinvention,” and can be seen at the Furniture Campus Building on the West Side. Her art work is also currently on display in the HHS, Health Options offices.
You can vote for Debra’s piece by using code 35481, or online at Debra’s artist profile. To learn more about the work, visit the Resilience 2010 page.
Voting for ArtPrize runs from September 22 to September 30.
