Holland Home employees deliver 1500 pounds of food to shelter in need

Do you know what 1,500 pounds of food looks like?  It looks like “hope” to the many residents of Grand Rapids who are going hungry this winter.

Holland Home employees delivered 1500 pounds of food yesterday to the South End Community Outreach Ministries (SECOM) food pantry. The donation is the culmination of a three-week-long company-wide food drive organized by Holland Home employees to give thanks for the blessings of the Christmas season.

“Food pantries are typically low in supplies after the holidays so we planned our drive to coincide with their time of greatest need,” said Jason Preuss, Holland Home’s director of dining services.

The SECOM food pantry serves as one of 11 key pantries in the ACCESS (all County Churches Emergency Support Services) Kent County-wide food pantry network.

The donated food and supplies filled four large, wheeled bins to overflowing. Volunteers immediately began transferring the food to the pantry’s sparsely stocked shelves.
