How to apply to be a volunteer
People of all ages and interests volunteer at Holland Home. Please review the current openings, and if you are interested in helping us fill one of those needs, contact the volunteer office at the location for more information. After discussing the possibilities, if you wish to pursue the opportunity, please print the appropriate type of application and complete it and bring it to your interview.
To get started, download the volunteer application.
If you are ready to commit to at least six (6) months of “regularly scheduled service” with us, we invite you to call one of our offices to discuss the process of becoming a volunteer with us. Currently we can only accept persons who have lived in the state of Michigan for the last 3 years. If you are able to commit and fill a need within our organization, you will be asked to fill out and return our volunteer application. Once we receive your completed application, and we complete your background check, if you qualify we will add you to our list of invites for interview and orientation sessions coming up.
You will be given the dates and times of upcoming interview and orientation sessions, which are held at least twice a month at each location. When you come to your session, please bring the following:
- Michigan Driver's License or Michigan Identification Card (students 12-16 may bring a student ID card from school)
- If you have had a TB test in the past six months, or if you get TB testing annually for school or work, please bring proof of negative TB testing. For those who do not have proof of current, negative TB, we will administer a TB test at the orientation, as well as have you return within 21 days for a second TB test. Then, all volunteers are tested annually in May. If you are a “positive tester,” you must provide proof from the health department that you are clear of TB and are a positive tester.
We thank you for your interest in sharing your time and talents with us!
Adults
We have a wide variety of opportunities for you! Our adult application will help us gather the information we need before we talk with you about how you can share your time and talents with our residents.
Students
If you are interested in serving, talk with us about a volunteer placement that will enhance your education. We are happy to work with students in finding a suitable role that can fulfill your need to give, as well as provide you with exposure to various careers!
Hospice
Stretch your wings and volunteer for Faith Hospice! You will receive carefully matched assignments that are tailored to your individual skills, interests, and availabilities. Use the skills you already have or choose to learn something new. You decide how much time, how often, and in what capacity you wish to volunteer. You might consider respite care, administrative support, hair stylist, masseuse, or providing bereavement support.
For more information about volunteering for Faith Hospice, please see the Faith Hospice volunteer site.
Special groups or presentations
We encourage your church, civic group, girl or boy scout troop, choir, band, or other groups to contact us for opportunities to experience sharing something special with our residents. Contact the director at 616-340-4629 for more information.
