Giving

Planned giving

When it comes to making a long-term impact on Holland Home and those we serve, there are many giving options other than simply writing a check. Learn about charitable gifts that best meet your family’s needs and support the mission of Holland Home.

Key to Financial Strength

Did you ever sing “The wise man built his house upon the Rock” in Sunday School? The familiar song from childhood has powerful implications for our adult lives. Building our financial houses on the Rock, Jesus Christ, means that we can excel now and later. Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) founder Colonel Sanders remarked, “There’s no good reason to be the richest man in the cemetery.” He’s right, but we can be rich towards God by excelling in the “grace of giving.” (2 Corinthians 8:7). We can give generously now, and we can give later by including ministries such as Holland Home Foundation in our Wills.

A blessing for your extended family

A life insurance agent approached a farmer, trying to sell him a new policy. The agent asked if the farmer had ever had any accidents. “Never”, the farmer responds. “However, just recently my horse kicked me in the ribs. And a couple of years ago, I was out in my field and a rattlesnake bit my ankle.” “Wouldn’t you call those accidents?” the puzzled agent inquired. “Not at all,” the farmer replied. “They both did it on purpose!”.

One of the ways God can provide for your family in a time of need is life insurance. But did you know that God can also use your life insurance to create a convenient bonus blessing for your extended “family” — namely the ministries you love such as Holland Home Foundation?

Finishing well no matter what

Grimacing with each step, a lone runner hobbled around the track. His name was John Stephen Akhwari from Tanzania — the last man to finish the marathon. The spectators rose to their feet, cheering and applauding as though Akhwari were the winner. “My country did not send me 5,000 miles to start the race. They sent me 5,000 miles to finish it." We, too, are in a race. And God is calling each of us to “run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” One way we can do that is to use the resources God has entrusted to us to provide for our families and the ministries we love – during and after our lifetimes.

Famously wrong predictions

The future is so hard to predict — even for so-called experts. In 1943, the chairman of IBM observed, “I think there is a world market for maybe five computers.” And even the Commissioner of the US Patents office predicted in 1899 that “Everything that can be invented has been invented.”

Putting our trust in human wisdom (even our own) is risky. But putting our trust in Christ, and sharing the wisdom that comes from God with our children is not only wise — it’s life-changing. That’s the picture we see in Proverbs 3: “My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart… let love and faithfulness never leave you… then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.” May God bless you as you share your wisdom and your wealth with your family and the ministries you love.
