The Heritage Program

Holland Home enjoys an impeccable and admirable record of service to the elderly. Since our founding in 1892, we have strived to fulfill the Biblical mandate from which our mission derives.

Today Holland Home is the largest non-profit Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) in Michigan and the 39th largest in the United States. We provide a continuum of care for 1,600 residents living on our three campuses. In addition, each day we serve more than 1,700 people in the greater Grand Rapids community through off-campus programming that includes HHS Health Options, HomeCare, Rehab Dimensions, Faith Hospice, and Care Resources.

Every older adult who enters into a continuing care agreement and becomes a Holland Home resident receives our commitment to lifelong, excellent, Christian care. Our residents enjoy not only improved quality of life, but the security of knowing they will receive the care they need, regardless of their ongoing ability to pay.

As our society has aged and more older adults have chosen the care, comfort and security of residential living at Holland Home, the need for charitable care has grown. Though Medicaid provides some funding for those unable to pay, much of the need falls to the Resident Assistance Fund to provide that charitable care.

The annual amount of charitable care has increased significantly in recent years — from $745,000 in 1986 to $5,128,636 in 2010. At present, resident assistance supports approximately 270 of our residents. That represents 41% of our skilled nursing and assisted living residents or one out of every six living within Holland Home.

This increased need for support is a trend we expect will continue for the foreseeable future. Based on historical trends, we expect the amount needed for resident financial assistance to double every ten years.

We are most grateful for donors whose generous contributions have enabled us to build the Holland Home Foundation and care for those without means according to our “instructions” in James 1:27. In order for us to keep pace with the growing need for resident assistance, we must build the Holland Home Foundation to $45 Million by 2025. Our interim goal is to raise $15 Million from our residents and constituency over the next two years.

To accomplish this important goal, we are asking current residents and our constituency to help us with this essential endeavor with gifts of cash or appreciated securities, assigning the refundable amount of their entrance fee to the Holland Home Foundation and considering a deferred gift through ones will or estate that will help sustain the Foundation for years to come. Your gift, whether today or at some later date, will positively impact Holland Home residents today and for many years to come.
